9 Reasons to Start a Blog

Reasons to Blog Pin
How many of us have wanted to start a blog? I know I wanted to start a blog for many years before I actually did. In fact, I started a blog through blogpress in 2014 but only posted a welcome post and never returned to follow through. I keep asking myself why I never followed through on this and truthfully I think I just wasn’t motivated. However, now that I have become more motivated to helping others improve their finances, well-being, and overall quality of life, I thought some of you may need motivation to start your own blog.
So I decided to write a post about the various reasons I decided to start a blog and treat it as a business. Hopefully, some of these are reasons you may want to start a blog as well, even if it’s just for fun. If you are interested in learning how to start a blog of your own, check out my How To Start a Blog Tutorial.
1.       Having a creative outlet
Maybe you have a desire to write or simply to be creative. Both are very good reasons to start your own blog. I have always had an interest in writing, but again never followed through on doing so. Now that I have started this blog, I am loving every minute of writing it. The odds are you would too. I also think blogging will help you pursue other writing pursuits if that is your desire.
2.       Sharing your opinion
Honestly, we live in a world where it is expected for us to share our opinions. I know I am entirely too opinionated to not share my thoughts or advice, and I am sure I am not alone. Blogging is a great way to share your opinion and to start discussions on anything you feel like. I don’t recommend spreading negativity in your blog, as we all need to remember to be respectful. But I highly encourage intellectual growth through learning about varying opinions
3.       Helping others
One of the reasons I started my blog was because I wanted to motivate and inspire others to improve their financial situations or to avoid the financial mistakes I made entirely. You may have a similar desire to share what you know with the world. The internet is such a great way to help connect each other with information why not take advantage of that?
4.       Generating more income
I don’t think it’s a secret that you can generate an income from blogging. I think many of us don’t know how to do this and I’ll admit I am still figuring that part out. But I do hope to be able to generate an extra income with my blog. It’s possible for anyone who is willing to put in the work and the time to do so. I know there are many ways one can make money, but I have worked more than one job at a time ever my sophomore year of college and didn’t stop doing this until the end of 2015. Honestly, I need a different way and I know blogging can create an income for you just stay committed.
5.       Meeting personal goals
Starting a blog can really help you meet some personal goals or dreams you may have. The opportunities for your blog are endless depending on how hard you are willing to work. I realized last month that I am 26 years old and have not accomplished anything I would personally like to say that I have accomplished in my life such as traveling the globe, or having a book I wrote published. I did know that I was ready to be committed to the goals in my life. Blogging can help you focus on what you want out of life and make it happen.
6.       Providing something of value
I am sure we all want to leave something behind for others to remember us by. I realized I no longer care if the entire world learns my name or thinks I’m wonderful. I just want those who truly know me and are close to me to have a way to remember me. I want to remember myself if when I am older I am no longer able to remember my life. I also want to be able to leave a financially free future for those who may come after me. (Not speaking of just kids, but siblings, nieces and nephews, friends, anyone really). I want to contribute. Blogging can help you do this.
7.       Inspiring others
I know this kind of goes with helping people, but I feel it deserves its own space. In addition to sharing our opinions or advice with others I am sure many of us would like to inspire our readers. I know I would love to see a world that thinks a little better, acts a little better, and shows a little more kindness. Who’s to say we all can’t help move the human race towards that and who’s to say that blogging can’t contribute towards that future?
8.       Positive Outlook
Honestly, I realized I was being a very angry and miserable person when I decided to start my blog. I think this was because I was disappointed in how my life turned out and in myself as a person. Maybe you feel the same way or have a similar mindset. This is one of the reasons I am choosing to blog about mental health in addition to my other posts. Once I decided to change my circumstances, and not just think about doing it, but really started to take action towards doing it, my mind became a better place. I haven’t been angry in months, and I genuinely do have a more positive outlook on life ever since I decided to pursue this goal. Blogging can help you start to have that positive outlook on life as well if you let it.
9.      Networking
I don’t know about you, but I love finding ways to make new connections and meet new people. I view everything as an opportunity and why shouldn’t we? Blogging can provide the means to create a larger network for yourself. I have already met so many amazing and inspiring people who started their own blogs. This is just another reason why you should too!
10.       Living intentionally
One of my hopes for this blog, is to remind me that everything I do should have a purpose. I have always had ambition, but I have rarely utilized this ambition. I want to do something that matters to myself and to others. I want this blog to keep me focused, and following a path that I have chosen for myself. I know many of you probably feel the same way. Blogging can provide a purpose for you and as I mentioned before can help you stay focused. Blogging can help you lead a life you can be proud of living.
I am certain many of you feel like at least one of these reasons apply to you. So why not stop thinking and just start doing? Even if I never make a single penny from this endeavor, I will be happy knowing I made the effort, knowing I tried, and knowing I did something that mattered to me. I hope that you take the chance and start putting in the effort to change your life as well!
Feel free to share below your reasons for starting a blog!
