Why I’m Publishing Monthly Income Reports

One of the reasons I was motivated to begin my blogging journey was from seeing fellow bloggers post monthly income reports. Whether they were making money or not, I find all of these posts to be inspiring. I hope that you will be able to find my income reports inspiring as well. To clarify, these reports will not include income from my husband’s or I’s jobs. This will only include income from any of the side jobs I am trying out and from this blog if I ever start to make money from blogging. I find it all very exciting and I look forward to where this journey will take me. If you are wanting to start your own blog, check out my How to Start a Blog post using Bluehost! (this post contains affiliate links, which means I earn a little bit of money whenever you purchase or sign up through my links. Don’t worry I only recommend things that I also personally use!)

I chose to start my income reports from the very beginning of my blog so that you and I have something to compare to later down the road if I do in fact become successful at this. I also plan to include updates on traffic reports once I get this figured out. Please know, that I am choosing to share these income reports not to brag, but to inspire, and to provide a realistic idea of what you can expect to make starting out your own blog. Keep in mind, most of this income hasn’t been taxed yet so I will have to pay taxes on it come tax season.

I will be posting these income reports once a month, but plan to post new content 1-2 times a week. If you would like to follow along in my journey feel free to subscribe to my blog. You can be among the first to know every time I publish a new post, by using the subscription box on the right. Plus you will receive a free budgeting template when you subscribe!

Traffic Report Breakdown

Subscriber Growth: Currently I have 57 subscribers! This means that I gained 10 new subscribers this month. Which is down by 20 new subscribers from last month. I’m not too disappointed, because I do believe it is my fault. I didn’t add my landing page and get my freebie up and running. Once I’m able to do both of those things, then I think my subscribers will start to increase more quickly. Growth is growth though so all is well!

Facebook Likes: I have 78 likes on my Facebook page. That is 1 new like this month! Haha I can’t believe I am gaining new views and likes on this page since all I do is post whenever I publish a new post currently. I don’t want to commit to trying to grow on Facebook until I have some other things organized.

Pinterest Followers: I have 15,543 followers on my personal Pinterest page (-7), and I have 1,232 followers on my business Pinterest page (+21)! I hope that one of the courses I purchased in the Genius Blogger’s Toolkit is going to help me start growing more on Pinterest in the upcoming months.

Twitter Followers: I am currently at 103 followers (+3) and earned over 1,400 impressions this month (-321). So no growth really, but again this is not the platform I am focusing on just yet.

This is what my traffic report looks like from Google AdSense:

I made $1.67 from ads this month bringing my total Adsense profit to $10.40. Very slow progress with making money from ads, but I still like having them, because I only have them on my side bar so I don’t feel like they detract from my blog at all and they just keep making me money without me having to do anything other than drive traffic to my site. So, for now I’m content but I do hope to improve this in the future. I just really don’t like websites that have ads in their content or scrolling ads, so I am not going to be adding those.

This is what my traffic looks like from Google Analytics.

Here are what my stats look like from last month to this month:

September October Entire Life of Blog
Sessions 3,339 1,704 7,182
Pageviews 4,146 2,469 11,166
Avg. Session Duration 00:40 00:48 1:15
% New Sessions 93.89% 87.97% 85.34%
Users 3,152 1,537 6,129
Pages/Session 1.24 1.45 1.55
Bounce Rate 89.19% 82.51% 82.36%

Alright, so I saw a drop this month compared to last month, but if we look at this long term, I’m still making great progress! I also saw a few areas improve such as people are staying a little bit longer this month, my bounce rate is lower, and readers are looking at a few more pages when they visit. My coaching group seemed to notice this decrease this month, so I don’t necessarily think it was just me and my blog. I think this could have been a seasonal thing, or could have been affected by external factors that I’m not completely aware of, such as the internet attack this month on all DNS related sites.

This is what my traffic looks like from Pinterest.

September October Overall
Average Daily Impressions 1,519 2,384 684 (+229)
Average Daily Views 1,031 1,626 464 (+156)
Average Monthly Viewers 13,063 27,973 7,673 (+2,800)
Average Monthly Engaged 361 778 216 (+78)

I am continuing to see fantastic growth on Pinterest. However, I want to start figuring out how to bring more of the people seeing my pins to my site, and then how to keep them coming back. This month I focused on pinning to group boards twice each day, and staying as active as possible by repining other pins. I really want to start automating some of this though so I’m going to start looking into the free trials of Tailwind and Boardbooster.

Each month I hope to make big improvements on the quality, design, content, and growth of this blog. If you can share my page on your social networks that would be fantastic! If you have any advice I’m open to that as well!

If you are wanting to start your own blog, check out my How to Start a Blog post using Bluehost!

I look forward to see how next month turns out!!!

    • Well, I just carried over the goals I did not complete last month. These are actually my goals through the end of the year because I Think they will officially get me out of the beginning stages of blogging so I can start to focus on growth and monetization. Thanks for looking out for me!

  1. I can give some advice for your freebie situation.. what I’ve been doing is: upload freebie pdf to website (upload media), and inside email newsletter, copy the link of freebie to the Thank You page of newsletter opt-in. Your freebie would have a link like “http:// livingfullyandfree. com/wp-content/uploads/YEAR/MONTH/ Freebie.pdf (if your are using wordpress.org) People like to get their freebie as soon as they sign up, so having it on the Thank You page, or last email in the opt-in sequence is expected. Let me know if that helps, and now I’m curious what your freebie will be all about 😉
