Why I’m Publishing Monthly Income Reports

One of the reasons I was motivated to begin my blogging journey was from seeing fellow bloggers post monthly income reports. Whether they were making money or not, I find all of these posts to be inspiring. I hope that you will be able to find my income reports inspiring as well. To clarify, these reports will not include income from my husband’s or I’s jobs. This will only include income from any of the side jobs I am trying out and from this blog if I ever start to make money from blogging. I find it all very exciting and I look forward to where this journey will take me. If you are wanting to start your own blog, check out my How to Start a Blog post using Bluehost(this post contains affiliate links, which means I earn a little bit of money whenever you purchase or sign up through my links. Don’t worry I only recommend things that I also personally use!)

I chose to start my income reports from the very beginning of my blog so that you and I have something to compare to later down the road if I do in fact become successful at this. I also plan to include updates on traffic reports once I get this figured out. Please know, that I am choosing to share these income reports not to brag, but to inspire, and to provide a realistic idea of what you can expect to make starting out your own blog. Keep in mind, most of this income hasn’t been taxed yet so I will have to pay taxes on it come tax season.

I will be posting these income reports once a month, but plan to post new content 2-3 times a week. If you would like to follow along in my journey feel free to subscribe to my blog. You can be among the first to know every time I publish a new post, by using the subscription box on the right. Plus you will receive a free budgeting template when you subscribe!

My Blogging Journey

If you are curious to learn my reasons and motivations for beginning this blogging journey you should check out my “Why I am Starting a Blog.” To give you a brief overview, I have four major reasons for beginning this blog: 1) I need extra income to pay down some of our debt 2) I want to be my own boss and have my financial freedom 3) I want to help others avoid the mistakes I made 4) I need a creative outlet.

Last Month’s Income Report & Goals

I can not believe it’s September already! This summer has really flown by, and boy have I been busy. I know I’ve shared when I’ve had less productive weeks through my weekly “Starting a Blog” series. This month I stepped it up a bit! I didn’t meet all of my goals, but I realized that this is okay because maybe I’m setting the wrong goals. This month I started focusing more on education. I attended about 7 webinars and tried attending several others. I’ve been doing a lot of research on what areas I should be focusing on improving and I’ve started to create action steps towards improving in the areas I’ve identified.

Goals from August of 2016:

I would have liked to accomplish more this month, but I think my mind is in the right place now and I have identified smaller areas that I can work on improving.

  1. Increase page views-Fail. I’m not surprised my page views decreased, my goal now though is to not let it drop anymore and to instead increase my monthly views.
  2. Decrease bounce rate-Pass! My bounce rate actually decreased from
  3. Publish 2 posts each week plus a weekly update (vacation week is excused from this in case my pre-post timing doesn’t work properly)- Fail. But I’m glad because I want to only publish 1 post each week and a weekly update.
  4. Invest in blogging training or improvements- Pass! I did not spend any money in this area but I attended 7 free webinars taught by successful entrepreneurs and bloggers in different areas.
  5. Compile a list of bloggers who post income reports-Pass! Now I did not complete or publish this list, but it’s a start.
  6. Join 10 more Pinterest boards-Fail. I think I joined 1 new group board.
  7. Join 5 more Facebook groups-Fail. I think I joined 1 new group.
  8. Work on utilizing my plug-ins more effectively-Fail. Didn’t even look at them.
  9. Increase SEO-Fail. SEO is confusing.
  10. Make $200 in extra income-Fail. I made $163.90 in extra income this month.

Traffic Report Breakdown

Subscriber Growth: Currently I have 17 subscribers! I know I’ve seen growth this month but I’m sorry to say I’m not sure how many new subscribers were just from this month. I really hope to increase this number next month! I’d like to have a couple hundred subscribers or more by the end of the year.

Facebook Likes: I have 75 likes on my Facebook page. That is growth but such a small amount. I plan on creating a Facebook group pretty soon that I hope to get more interaction on.

Pinterest Followers: I have 15,556 followers on my personal Pinterest page (-14), and I have 1139 followers on my business Pinterest page (+39)!

Twitter Followers: I am currently at 94 followers (+7) and earned 865 impressions this month (-243).

This is what my traffic report looks like from Google AdSense:

I made $0.31 this month in passive income from the two ads I have on this site. This brings my account balance to $3.52. I can request cash out when my account reaches $100. So I need to do some research into how I can optimize my ads without disrupting my readers.

This is what my traffic looks like from Google Analytics.

Analytis 8 16

I saw another drop this month. I really have to get back into gear if I want to be successful at this blog. My page views dropped from 977 to 706., my users dropped from 455 to 273, However my bounce rate decreased from 78.43 to 67.51. So, I have had viewer views, but they are looking at more things. This month I plan to see growth. I am going to work hard to make sure of it!

This is what my traffic looks like from Pinterest.

Pin Impressions 8 16

Pin Viewers 8 16

My daily impressions increased from 130 to 196. I think this was because I started trying to fill up my boards and be more active on Pinterest where I haven’t been in the past. My average daily viewers also increased from 94 to 135! So a little bit of progress from the tiny bit of work I’ve been doing! Unfortunately, the drop I didn’t see last month in my average monthly viewers occurred this month with a huge drop from 4,764 to 1,911. My average monthly engaged viewers dropped by half from 121 to 51! I will be improving this next month! I will work very hard to make this happen!

Each month I hope to make big improvements on the quality, design, content, and growth of this blog. If you can share my page on your social networks that would be fantastic! If you have any advice I’m open to that as well!

If you are wanting to start your own blog, check out my How to Start a Blog post using Bluehost!

I look forward to see how next month turns out!!!

    • Yes I have the SEO plug-in. I use it a little bit but I’m sure I’m not using it to it’s full potential yet. And yes I did my first shop with Marketforce! I’m waiting to make sure I get paid before doing another one though.
